CONTINUING THE TRADITION

A New Chapter in a Strong Legacy

For more than a century, the Phillips family name has stood for grit, ingenuity and service in the Long Beach industrial community.

That legacy began in 1915, when Russian immigrant Paul Phillips traded a butcher’s apron for a wagon and a small warehouse, laying the foundation for what would become Phillips Steel.

Over four generations, Phillips Steel evolved alongside the region it served, growing from a modest scrap operation into a trusted industrial partner supporting refineries, energy companies, manufacturers and entrepreneurs across Southern California. Through every chapter, one philosophy remained constant: take care of people, commit for the long term and never stop improving.

Brothers Greg Phillips and Todd Phillips were a critical part of the company’s success story. They grew and modernized the family business before ultimately launching a venture of their own in 2018: Tonnage Industrial. Today, while Phillips Steel has transitioned to an online material distribution only model, Tonnage Industrial is expanding in new and important ways.

Tonnage Industrial is now growing alongside a complementary, family-founded extension led by another generation of Phillips leadership. This new venture was founded by Stephanie and Trina—the wives of Greg and Todd—creating a woman-owned, LSBE-certified company that both honors the family’s industrial legacy and expands its reach.

Built on the same operational strength, industry expertise and customer-first mindset as Tonnage Industrial, this womanowned company creates new pathways for businesses seeking to engage with diverse suppliers and meet evolving procurement goals without sacrificing capability or reliability.

By combining generations of industrial experience with woman-owned certification, Phillips Industrial is uniquely positioned to serve partners who value proven performance, trusted relationships and expanded supplier access. Clients don’t have to choose between capability and supplier diversity goals. They can have both, backed by more than 100 years of family legacy.
